Our Benefits Help Smooth the Road Ahead
Full-time employees have access to medical, dental, and vision benefits.
We offer a rich Medical/Prescription benefit plan through Medical Mutual of Ohio with shared employer and employee premiums. Eligible employees who have other Medical Insurance may waive this coverage and receive an opt out payment.
We provide Dental benefits through Delta Dental of Ohio with shared employer and employee premiums.
Our Vision benefits are managed through Medical Mutual of Ohio and include shared employer and employee premiums.
Health Flexible Spending Account
Employees may save money by making pre-tax contributions to a Health Flexible Spending Account to be used for eligible medical expenses incurred by the employee and their dependents. These accounts are managed by Chard Snyder and expenses can be paid with the Benny prepaid benefit card or claims may be submitted by e-mail, fax, online or U.S. mail.
Dependent Care Spending Account
Employees can make pre-tax contributions to a Dependent Care Spending Account to be used for the care of dependent children under the age of 13 or dependents of any age who are unable to care for themselves.
Basic Life Insurance and Accidental Death & Dismemberment Insurance
We provide policies of $50,000 in Basic Life Insurance as well $50,000 in Accidental Death & Dismemberment for eligible Union employees. Eligible Non-Union employees are provided policies of 2 times the employee’s basic annual earnings, up to a maximum of $150,000, in Basic Life Insurance as well as Accidental Death & Dismemberment.
Eligible employees experiencing a disability from a covered injury, sickness or pregnancy may receive short term income protection beginning on the 8th day of disability and may continue up until the 180th day.
Long-Term Disability is provided for eligible Non-Union employees for covered absences of more than 6 months and may continue until the employee is no longer disabled, reaches age 70, or retires.
Biometric Screening & Wellness Opportunities
We partner with Alyfe to offer comprehensive biometric screening, which can encourage a healthy lifestyle and personal health awareness. Participation in this program gives employees a health insurance premium reduction.
Fitness & Wellness Reimbursement
COTA employees may receive reimbursement for participation in approved fitness and wellness programs that encourage and support developing healthier lifestyles.
We offer Tuition Reimbursement to all full-time employees who have at least one year of tenure with the company.

Employee Assistance Program
COTA’s EAP through GuidanceResources provides free confidential counseling services for employees and their dependents, as well as support, resources and information for a wide variety of personal and work-life issues.
Supplemental Insurance Benefits
We offer supplemental Life, Accidental Death & Dismemberment, Dental, Vision, MetLife, and Whole Life Insurance options. Premiums are paid by direct payroll deduction.
COTA employees are given the opportunity to use the CME Federal Credit Union and Bridge Credit Union that offer various accounts, credit cards and loan services.
As a public employer, all COTA employees are members of the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS), which provides benefits for retirees, surviving spouses, dependent children and dependent parents.
457(b) Deferred Compensation Plan
Employees may elect to use Ohio Deferred Compensation to save and invest money in a tax-deferred account that can help them prepare for retirement.
Personal Training and Development
We promote learning and development across the organization. Training starts with onboarding for new hires to continued development of the tenured employees and Leadership Team. Training includes Soft Skills Training, Leadership Training, Compliance Training and Technical Training.
We give current employees priority consideration for advancement within the company. All open positions are posted internally at all COTA locations for a one-week period.
Performance Incentive Compensation (PIC) Program
The PIC program is used to recognize and reward employees for achieving outstanding Authority-wide performance and meeting objectives in expense control, ridership, on-time performance, customer satisfaction, service reliability and safe operations.
